lol If you care to watch it, that is!

Here’s video from FPCC’s 2008 Graduation, featuring my sister Megan and myself. This was on May 10, 2008, and started at 11am. It was about an hour and some change long, but I shortened it to 8 minutes 40 seconds.

I tried to have explainations of what was happening at particular times, and made the captions yellow so they’d be easier to see. If not, well, sorry.

Oh yeah, and HAHA! I liked the Yellow Captions because they reminded me of a Steven Spielberg movie, like Star Wars, or Indiana Jones. I wish I had an aerial shot of us driving to Poplar so we could do the red dot thing of us traveling on the map, AAAYEZ, LOL!!! (Cue music! LOL!)
(…and speaking of Indiana Jones, I can’t wait to see the new movie!!!)

May has been a busy month for us, as Dreona’s Ballet Recital was just last week here! Here is some video, but this is just part one, as the whole video is 27 minutes long. I am so very proud of her! She did such a great job!!

It is, without a doubt, late summer in North Carolina.

I love North Carolina. In spite of its less than intelligent choice to be a red state, in spite of the few frightening seriously Deliverance looking towns we still have, in spite of the way people will still treat you if you happen to be a little bit different from the norm, I still believe that North Carolina is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Late summertime, though? It makes me want to move away every year.

It happens quickly. One morning you take the dogs out and you think that it must have rained a bit overnight because the air feels decidedly damp. Then, off in the distance, you hear the buzzing of a far off cicada and you think yep, it’s summertime. You go back indoors innocently thinking that it has been summertime all along and that it is all going to be just fine.

But within a week the cicadas are all over the place, buzzing right up your very spine and into your brain like insanity and the air is so wet that even indoors you can only sit there sweating sometimes, wishing that it was early menopause because at least then it would be over eventually and you might make it through without killing anyone. Yet you really couldn’t kill anyone even if you wanted to because it is too darn hot to lift a finger, let alone exert the energy to commit an actual murder.

Late summer in North Carolina is like an entity unto itself, like an uninvited guest whom you were happy to see but now are wishing he would just go home. The heat is some amazing, oppressive thing that won’t allow you to do anything normally and makes you do lots of laundry.

In my dreams there is a place where the temperature never gets above 85 or below 60 and the humidity is never enough to make my hair poofy. It’s the same place where the entire Bush administration never happened and there are no wars and everyone is kind to one another and we don’t have any racial tension or drug addiction or ugliness. We are all in happy relationships and everyone knows the difference between your and you’re. It’s a lovely place.

We’re pleased to confirm that Goldfrapp are peforming tracks from ‘Seventh Tree’ on The Culture Show on BBC2 next week.

5th August - BBC2 10pm
7th August - BBC2 11.20pm, Culture Show Uncut

For those of you outside the UK or who miss the performance, the show will be available to view on the BBC iplayer for a week after transmission.
